Present to Past forward for Future

So Tyler and I head off shopping over the weekend to get that last of school clothes and supplies. While in a mall, we checked out a kiosk that has skins for various electronic gadgets. Tyler being interested in a PSP skin and checking out the WII skins. He came across a skin that had a very familiar graphic.

A year ago, Tyler being into Animee and Dungeons and Dragons, I told him of a "Fantasy Artist" that I had the pleausure of meeting way back when I was 19. His name Denis Beauvais. He lived right above me in a downtown apartment. He would come down and play Chess with my errrrrrrr **grumbling** "roommate" .. yes that's what that was called **shiver** .... and I had gone up a few times to check out his art studio and meet his pet Iguana's. I showed Ty, Denis's site and I guess this particular artpiece stuck to his brain. (you'll probably understand when you see the art - remember he is 16) The problem with the artwork at hand, is that it had a fire breathing dragon, a dragon I knew was not Den's .... and the original I recalled did not have a dragon... hmmmmm

I did a quick search on the internet and found the company that was displaying this particular artwort and quickly emailed Den the next day to ask if this was his or not.

I've seen Den once and spoke briefly via email in the last 25 years.

He replied that it wasn't his dragon, but it was the Genjistuka. He contacted the company DecalGirl.

The piece in question was submitted by an "artist" who claimed it was his original piece of art. After reviewing Den's gallery, they promptly removed the design from their site, apologized for the confusion and then proceeded to tell him "paraphrasing"......that his original piece title "Genjitsuka" was far superior and that If Den would be interested in formally licensing the original, authentic piece, to let them know. They felt that the artwork would work well, in its original form, across the entire platform range. HOLY HOT TO FIRE!

(Kudos to DecalGirl for removing the imposter artwork so promptly)

The funny thing about this story is that.... he didn't know who Pennylynn was (my "grownup" name I go by), he knew me as Penny, so he had no idea that it was me until I mentioned some of my favourite art that I couldn't find on the site, and that it was displayed in his apartment back in the 80's... I think he freaked abit and then realized who I was..... LOL!!

Den, moved to the States. He gave me permission to write about this happy ending, and to allow me to showcase the artwork that I hope may be appearing in the new line up of Electric gadget Skins. (Ipods, WII, PSP, Cell Phones etc etc) It will be a warm fuzzy feeling to see it and be able to say that I had a little something to do with that. Keep in touch Den!

Here is a closeup.... don't you just love the effect of the tatoo... I love his dragons.

To see his other works - you have to check it out at http://www.denbeauvais.com/
